Biomagnetic Imaging Laboratory
Srikantan S. Nagarajan, Ph.D., Director, 415/476-4982

The Biomagnetic Imaging Laboratory is a shared clinical and research facility in the Department of Radiology at UCSF. The laboratory primarily conducts basic and clinical research on brain function with a focus on Electromagnetic source imaging (ESI). The laboratory also provides clinical services such as functional brain mapping in patients with brain tumors and arteriovenous- malformations, and epileptic zone localization in patients with epilepsy.

Research Directions:

  • Development of machine learning algorithms and tools for functional brain imaging and for brain machine interfaces
  • Development of clinical applications for electromagnetic source imaging
  • Neuroimaging of sensory feedback processing during motor actions
  • Imaging of spatiotemporal plasticity associated with perceptual learning
  • Integration of multi-modal and multi-scale imaging of dynamic and noisy cortical representations
