The upcoming June 5th, 2007 NIH deadline for R01's is fast approaching. It is critical that your fully completed electronic application be received at C&G by 9:00 a.m. four working days prior to the deadline. Submission of proposals that do not meet the C&G deadline policy will not be guaranteed.

It is important to understand that there is a possibility that a proposal might be rejected upon first submission to either Grants.gov or the NIH Commons and may need to be resubmitted through Grants.gov after corrections are made. Therefore, in order to avoid missing the agency deadline due to system rejections, it is essential that proposals are received at the UCSF C&G Office as early as possible.

Only proposals that are final in all aspects (administrative and research sections) should be submitted on to C&G. Please note that proposals that are received at C&G with incomplete sections and a note attached or subsequent phone calls asking to "hold for changes" will not be considered as meeting the C&G deadline and will be logged in as late. Additionally, once a proposal has been submitted electronically to Grants.gov and accepted by NIH Commons requests should not be submitted to C&G to withdraw proposals out of the Commons for the purpose of making last minute changes to research plans or budgets.

The Cayuse application system is now in use for all NIH submissions approved for electronic submission. PureEdge should no longer be utilized for NIH submissions. Full information and training material on Cayuse can be found on the C&G website at: <http://www.research.ucsf.edu/cg/polproc/cgEprop.asp>http://www.research.ucsf.edu/cg/polproc/cgEprop.asp

Questions regarding deadlines and the electronic submission process can be directed to Debbie Caulfield, C&G Federal Grant and Fellowship Team Manager at Debbie.Caulfield@ucsf.edu>Debbie.Caulfield@ucsf.edu.
