All post-doctoral proposals should be submitted through UCSF Contracts & Grants. TO: C&G REPRESENTATIVES AND CGANNOUNCE LISTSERVE RE: INDIVIDUAL PREDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP APPLICATIONS ****************************************************************************** This email is to provide clarification on the appropriate offices for handling of individual predoctoral fellowship applications. CONTRACTS & GRANTS: The C&G Office handles individual predoctoral fellowship and grant applications ONLY to federal government agencies, EXCEPT for certain fellowship programs that award students independent of their institutional affiliation, such as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Fellowship and the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF-GRFP). Applications to the DHS and NSF-GRFP are submitted to those agencies directly, with the approval of the student's mentor or advisor. Some examples of predoctoral fellowship applications that the C&G Office DOES handle are the Individual NIH-National Research Service Award and the NSF Dissertation Improvement Award. GRADUATE DIVISION: The Graduate Division handles predoctoral fellowship applications submitted by graduate academic students to all non-federal agencies that REQUIRE institutional approval. Most predoctoral applications do not require such approval and may be submitted to funding agencies directly, with the approval of the student's mentor or advisor. MEDICAL STUDENT FELLOWSHIPS: Fellowship applications for UCSF medical students only are handled by the School of Medicine Office of Curricular Affairs, with actual funding of awards handled through financial aid or the Dean's Office.
