Dear Faculty,

Dr. Halpern-Felsher is recruiting mentors for the 4th year of the UCSF Department of Pediatrics High School Summer Internship Program in Biomedical and Health Sciences. The goal of the program is to introduce senior high school students (incoming 12th graders) to the professional world of science and get them excited about science-related fields.

Many faculty across departments within UCSF have already participated in this program, with mentors and interns alike finding it an extremely rewarding and successful experience. Many alumni are attending top-notch colleges and universities, and attribute this program and the mentoring they received to their success. For more information on our program, please visit the webpage at <http://www.pediatrics.medschool.ucsf.edu/youth/training/intern.aspx>http://www.pediatrics.medschool.ucsf.edu/youth/training/intern.aspx.

Dr. Halpern-Felsher is in the process of recruiting mentors for this program. All faculty and trainees in all UCSF departments and schools are welcome to participate. Mentors can be faculty, graduate students, medical students and/or fellows and post-docs who are passionate about what they do and want the opportunity to share their passion for science with talented and motivated youth.

To make the transition or continuation to youth mentoring smoother, a mentor orientation (lunch included) will be provided in Spring 2007 before the start of the program.

At this point Dr. Halpern-Felsher simply needs to know which faculty and/or students/fellows are willing and able to take a student for the summer, and a general sense of the topic or project they will work on. As we get closer to the summer, you will be asked for more information regarding your research, and you will be given more details about the program.

If interested in being a mentor, please complete the attached form and either email or mail it to Dr. Halpern-Felsher at Box 0503.

If you have any questions, please email or call Dr. Halpern-Felsher at 502-4967 or bonnie.halpernfelsher@ucsf.edu>bonnie.halpernfelsher@ucsf.edu.

This is a great opportunity for students. We hope that many of you will participate!

UCSF Department of Pediatrics High School Summer Internship Program in Biomedical and Health Sciences

All faculty and trainees in all UCSF departments and schools are welcome to participate.

PLEASE COMPLETE & RETURN TO: Bonnie Halpern-Felsher, Box 0503 or bonnie.halpernfelsher@ucsf.edu>bonnie.halpernfelsher@ucsf.edu
