Current Newsletter NIH BIOENGINEERING RESEARCH PARTNERSHIPS (BRP)(Multiple IC's)(R01) (PAR-07-352) Application Submission/Receipt Date(s): Standard dates apply Participating Institutes and Centers (ICs) of the NIH invite applications for R01 awards to support Bioengineering Research Partnerships (BRPs) for basic, applied, and translational multi-disciplinary research that addresses important biological or medical research problems. In the context of this program, a partnership is a multi-disciplinary research team that applies an integrative, systems approach to develop knowledge and/or methods to prevent, detect, diagnose, or treat disease or to understand health and behavior. All NCI-designated Cancer Center investigators are eligible to apply, so long as the criteria in regard to project responsiveness are met. However, anticipated funding period of the Avon-NCI award should not extend beyond the end date of the 5-year parent P30 project period or the project period of subcontractor grants. This transformation will be achieved by creating an academic home, which can be a center, department, or Institute (C/D/I), comprising faculty and programs that integrate clinical and translational science across multiple departments, schools, clinical and research institutes and hospitals. The C/D/I should provide clinical research resources including infrastructure and training to various disciplines in its institution (e.g., medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, public health, biostatistics, epidemiology, bioengineering) for the benefit of researchers, trainees, and research projects across multiple aspects of health promotion and disease prevention, pre-emption, and treatment studied by a wide range of NIH Institutes and Centers. The goal of this FOA is to establish a stream of scientifically and technologically outstanding assays that can be automated for HTS at an NIH-funded (or other) facility. NCI: The NCI is especially interested in proposals related to cancer prevention, treatment or response to treatment using imaging agents, molecular markers, or biochemical pathways. Assays pertinent to the mission of NCI should be justified as relevant to cancer and may include any physiology, cell biology or developmental process with the goal of identifying molecules that either perturb the system (e.g., drugs for cancer prevention or treatment) or yield molecular information (e.g., imaging agents). Four broad Crosscutting Areas of National Interest for the 2007 Competition provide a framework that links a diversity of technical areas to broad-based economic and societal benefits that are important for technological competitiveness and are well-known priorities for the nation. The areas of interest are each multi-disciplinary technological areas that impact a multitude of industry sectors and applications, and represent technology frontiers with many high-technical risk challenges. They also represent areas where teaming among industry, universities, government labs, and regional centers of excellence is likely to be highly competitive due to the nature of the technical challenges and the potential for economic benefits. The four areas are: * Technologies for Advanced and Complex Systems (Competition 2007-B), * Challenges in Advanced Materials and Devices (Competition 2007-C), * 21st Century Manufacturing (Competition 2007-D), and * Nanotechnology (Competition 2007-E). The Center for Scientific Review is committed to continuing this pilot for the current study sections and to the extension to all new investigator R01 applications by the end of 2007. Forty-six study sections will be included for the May/June 2007 meetings. To accelerate expansion of the database to include all published agents, the MICAD program has implemented a procedure for members of the imaging community to write and submit entries (chapters) as guest authors to the database. All members of the imaging community are encouraged to consider this guest author opportunities. For further information, please contact the MICAD staff at micad@ncbi.nlm.nih.gov. Individual guest authors will be provide with detailed instructions, style guidelines, and a chapter template. The name of the contributing author(s) will be acknowledged and included in the MICAD online publication.
