The J. David Gladstone Institutes
Overview
"Scientific Leadership and Laboratory Management", a course for postdocs and junior faculty, will be offered at UCSF on May 9th and 10th, 2007 at The J. David Gladstone Institutes on the Mission Bay Campus.

This two-day, intensive course is designed to give new and future PI's the awareness, skills and tools needed to become better leaders and managers within a research unit. The course is modeled directly after a highly successful course created by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the Burroughs Wellcome Fund.

If you attend this course you will receive training in:

Leadership And Management In Science
Includes 10 hours of training by the leading trainer in this field, Dr. Ed O'Neil. Dr. O'Neil has used his unique leadership development curriculum to train scientists at Genentech, the NIH, and HHMI. Prior to your participation you will be asked to complete two on-line diagnostic tools that are used to assess and improve leadership and communication skills. Small group work with Dr. O'Neil's team of leadership specialists will ensure that you will realize tangible improvements in your own skills.

* Strategies for Success in Starting Your Laboratory.

The course is open to postdocs, clinical/translational researchers, and junior faculty from UCSF, The J. David Gladstone Institutes, and the Buck Institute for Age Research.

?$190 for clinical/translational
?$240 for all non-UCSF applicants researchers and faculty
?Some scholarships for UCSF postdocs are available.
