The purpose is to support research that will expand knowledge of the pathogenesis of HIV infection in women through investigations of female-specific biologic mechanisms that impact HIV transmission and HIV disease acquisition, manifestations and progress in women. The NIAI anticipates awarding 3 - 4 awards totaling $6 million in FY 2008.
